Hey! I'm James, a front end developer. I love creating beautiful and eye-catching designs - crafted from clean, elegant and efficient code.
I have always been a problem solver. From an early age there was always an impulse to take things apart and then to try to put them back together. Over time that developed into a passion for designing something new, then working out how to build it.
My passion for web development came via a surprising route. I have been working as a fashion designer for almost 14 years, most of which has been spent running my own small label in Berlin. E-commerce sites such as Shopify were just taking off when I started up and I found myself delving in to the code to try and personalise my own online store. Over time learning to code became a hobby I did in my spare time, then a passion that I was taking over everything else.
I came to the realisation quite early on that part of the reason I got so captivated by web-design was that I already had a lot of the skills required to do it well. If you pick up a jacket it is easy to forget that this 3 dimensional object is made from an assortment of small, flat parts. I have always had an enthusiasm for drafting patterns, using logic and calculation to create pieces that fit together to create both a design that is interesting and innovative, that also fits the body and looks exquisite. Although the tools I use are very different, web-design is like fashion in that at first you need imagination; then ingenuity to solve the problems and piece all the parts together.
Now is the time to take the leap and start a career in web-development. When you have a moment, please take some time to look over some examples of the work I have been doing. If you would like to work together or you have some ideas to share with me I would love to hear from you! The ways you can contact me are here...
